How Often Should You Replace Your Child's Car Seat?

Replacing your child's car seat depends on several factors, including the specific car seat, the child's age and size, and the manufacturer's recommendations.
In general, it is recommended that you replace a child's car seat if:

  • The child has outgrown the car seat according to the manufacturer's height and weight limits.
  • The car seat is installed in a car that’s been involved in a crash. It’s possible that the car seat may have sustained damage that is not readily visible, and which might compromise its ability to protect the child in the event of another crash.
  • If the car seat is more than 7 years old, and has been used by different children, the materials and components of the seat may degrade over time, and affect its ability to protect your child effectively. Also, harnesses and buckles might become less effective over time due to regular use.

It's important to read and follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific car seat you are using, and to register the car seat with the manufacturer so that you will receive important safety updates and other important information. You can register your KidsEmbrace car seat right here.
