Car Seat Safety For Kids 40 lbs+

Car seat safety is of the utmost importance for children of all ages and sizes, however, many parents may not realize that children over 40 pounds still need to be properly secured in a car seat.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children should remain in a rear-facing car seat until they reach the maximum weight or height allowed by the manufacturer. This is because rear-facing seats provide the best protection for a child's head, neck, and spine in the event of a crash.

Once a child outgrows their rear-facing car seat, they should then move to a forward-facing car seat, with a harness, until they reach the maximum weight or height allowed by the manufacturer. After that, they can be transitioned to a belt positioning booster seat until they are big enough to use a seatbelt alone.

It's important to note that just because a child reaches a certain weight or height, it does not necessarily mean they are ready to move to the next type of car seat. Each child develops at a different rate, so it's important to check the manufacturer's guidelines and consult with a pediatrician before making the transition.
